Blogging on The Brightside

"I think I can. I think I can. I think I can." -The Little Engine That Could

I choose to look at the positive things in life.

on May 9, 2012

I was kind of nervous when I was asked to write a post for this blog.  What words of inspiration do I have to offer?  I hate my job.  I work 80 hours a week.  I live by myself.  I haven’t seen anyone I truly care about in months.  You might think I’m constantly out looking for the nearest bridge to jump off– but you couldn’t be more wrong.  Sure, I get sad sometimes. But then I remember I don’t have time for that. I have to be awesome instead.

My life may look like a pile of shit to an outsider, but I don’t let that stuff define who I am. I choose to look at the positive things in life. For example, at least I have people in my life that I care about.  I don’t have to worry about having a bad roommate.  I have a job, and I have more fun than anyone I know when I actually have time to myself.  The positive things in my life keep me going every day. Even the toughest of days fuel my drive to make the most of what is the most trying.

What if there are no positive things in your life?  Do something about it! If things aren’t adding up in your life, starting subtracting. Cut out what doesn’t make you ecstatic. Learn to take the downright terrible with the good stuff.

Find what you love.  Chase your dreams.  Do all that cliché stuff that sounds like a joke.  What do you have to lose?  You’re still young, right? Don’t waste it being angry. Face it: that only looks cool on James Dean and well… you’re not him. Live your life for you and damnit, make the best of it.
