"I think I can. I think I can. I think I can." -The Little Engine That Could

“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”

— Maya Angelou

Don’t let anything keep you down. Everything to this point has taught you how to recover. Rise to the occasion. Rise from the depths. Just… RISE.

“What are you going to do with your one and only life?”

— Viola Davis in Won’t Back Down

A new teacher movie for me to geek out over is coming out this weekend. It was this quote however that reached out to more than simply the parents, students, and educators.

We have one life. ONE. What are you going to do with yours?

Make it one worth remembering. Make it one worth celebrating. And for goodness sake, make it one that makes YOU happy.

Love and Light,

Promise Yourself…

To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make your optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side
so long as you are true to the best that is in you.

— Christian D. Larson, Your Forces and How to Use Them

I decided no picture was necessary. Promises like these look different to everyone. Paint your own picture of what these promises look like. To me, they look like a happy life… and a happy life looks great on you.

“Little by little, one travels far.”

J.R.R. Tolkien

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is a grueling race that occurs every March from Anchorage to Nome Alaska. Depending on conditions, the race can last from 8-19 days and cover over eleven-hundred miles. Mushers and their teams face blizzards that cause white out conditions and temperatures that drop as low as -100 degrees F. Along the way there are 26 or 27 checkpoints. To complete the race, you have to take it one checkpoint at a time, 27 times. The cumulative result of each of these 27 efforts is astonishing. Mush.

A few words to make it through…

Today has been a rough day.

I spoke with a friend and a colleague amidst the sadness that remains attached to today’s date. I was reminded of something important.

It clings to hardship and disappointment.

It travels hand and hand with heartbreak and upsets.

And it sounds a little something like this…

Sometimes you have to look back on what you’ve been through to see how far you’ve come.

I hope you find comfort in these words as I do. Take the bitter with the better and wait for the sun to peek back through the darkest parts of your mind. Those you love will be happy to remind you of the good. Keep going. Be strong.

Love and Light,

Emergency Post

This post is urgent:  I am feeling the stress right now.  Sure enough, at just the right moment, I came across this gem.  I thought some of y’all might be feeling the stress tonight too, so I wanted to share this with you.

Life is how we look at it.

“It’s not like people abandon optimism. In fact, optimism, we’ve learned, is at its most powerful during trying times… People need something to help them keep their chin up.”

— Bert Jacobs

Another wonderful day spreading good vibes with the wonderful people of the Life is Good Festival.

This quote meant a lot to me when I realized that this blog could be “something to help keep (your) chins up.”

Sounds like a pretty great deal to me. These two guys know what it means to spread the message of optimism all over the world.

I know it feels pretty great to try the same thing in our little corner. Thank you, as always, for stopping by.
