You’re never going to please everybody- so do what’s best for you, and the people around at the end of the day are the ones who really matter. That’s the straight forward advice. But, what happens when you’re thesis committee has 3 competing ideas about the methods you should use for you research? What happens when your family and your wife’s family have different ideas about where your kids should spend the holidays or in what religion they should be raised? Making everybody happy isn’t what’s most important at the end of the day. But listening and making sure everyone knows you understand and have considered what they think will make them feel better about your decision to follow your heart.
