"I think I can. I think I can. I think I can." -The Little Engine That Could

“Do not allow yourself to be blinded by fear and anger. Everything is only as it is.”

As you begin this week, remind yourself that fear and anger can be great motivators, but should not be a perpetual source with which you get through each day.

Do not overthink. In assumptions, over-analyzing, and general t00-much-on-my-mind-edness, we make literal monsters out of everyday struggles and and catastrophes out of real, substantial issues.

Remind yourself of one simple phrase: It is what it is.

When something scares you or angers you, you lose your sight of the situation and often times, you lose yourself. Don’t allow the shadow cast by difficult mask your conviction to make it happen.

It is what it is, and what is is life. Chaotic, fast-paced, dizzying, and beautiful.

“What I came to realize is that fear, that’s the worst of it. That’s the real enemy. So, get up, get out in the real world, and you kick that bastard as hard as you can right in the teeth.

–Walter White

In light the series finale, our Monday Morning Message is from Breaking Bad.  We can certainly learn a lot from Walter White, our everyday high school chemistry teacher, but this is one of the more valuable lessons he shares.  When you are done with fear, when you can move past it and confront your challenges, nothing more can stand between you and your empire.

Have a great week.

Plunge boldly into the thick of life, and seize it where you will, it is always interesting.

When you swim out to Black Rock, the cliffs don’t seem very high.  But as you climb the boulders, the coarse stone cutting the bottom of your feet, the fish in the tidal pools start to seem tiny.  When you peer over the first wall, you realize that you’re climbing a bit higher than your comfort zone.  But you keep climbing, because no self-respecting thrill seeker jumps at the first chance.  So you keep climbing to the top and try not to look down.  After all, if you look down, you might not jump.  Now’s your chance to back out, but it’s a long climb back down.  You take a deep breath and two steps to fling yourself off the ledge.  The second step isn’t necessary because you’re already plummeting towards the water below.  You’re not really thinking about anything.  All you can do is tuck your arms in at your sides and… SMACK- you plunge beneath the cool salty water.  You feel the rush as you break the surface and take another deep breath.  Congratulations- you just took the plunge.

Take the plunge.

Live a little.

“Courage is looking fear right in the eye and saying, ‘Get the hell out of my way, I’ve got things to do.’”

I am all for being polite, respectful, and dignified. I am often the first to keep my mouth shut when I should stand up for myself.

But sometimes, you need to do some rescuing of your own and take charge when fear is telling you to sit down and shut up.

Have the courage to face your fear, whether it takes the form of nay-sayers, a curve ball, a huge misstep, or simply the weight of uncertainty.

Lead yourself in the right direction. Follow your dreams wherever they may lead. And make sure that you get the hell out of your own way. Sometimes the biggest road block can be the person looking back at you from the bathroom mirror.

This week, say it. Mean it. Do it. It’s your turn.

Fear, get the hell out of my way.

“Don’t let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use.”

— Earl Nightingale

It’s an amazingly simple concept, really. We use every opportunity to ignore it.

Oh, that will take forever…

I don’t have time for that…

Don’t settle for instant gratification when the time it takes for real success and happiness is going to pass anyway. Why not be proactive towards owning your time? Hold yourself accountable for each minute. Don’t CHOOSE to waste any of it. It’s all in the way you look at it.

“Let everything happen to you. Beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.”

— Rainer Maria Rilke

Experience is life’s best teacher. Sometimes, it comes to you as a euphoric moment and other times it brings you to your knees gasping for air just before delivering a knock-out blow. I never said it was a “nice” teacher…

I won’t belabor the point. No feeling is final. Let it all happen to you and grow through it. While it may not be the feeling(s) you want, they are feelings you need to experience. Feel what you’re feeling so that you can live your life.

Fear and Love

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”

— John Lennon

I’ll keep it short.

Fear or love: which one is it going to be driving YOUR decisions, YOUR mindset, YOUR life?

“Our real fears are the sounds of footsteps walking in the corridors of our minds, and the anxieties, the phantom floatings, they create.”

— Truman Capote

Take it from a woman who has been worried sick all day over something she couldn’t see but could only imagine…

Take it from a woman who was on the verge of tears at the thought of this thing with no proof of which direction things would go…

Take it from a woman who finally has a moment to breathe and say…

Take it from that woman. Do not let your fears rule your life. Do not let the possibility of something in the future dominate the positivity of the guaranteed RIGHT NOW.

Take it from me: Be present. What will be will be. Enjoy the ride until then.

Love and Light,
