"I think I can. I think I can. I think I can." -The Little Engine That Could

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Don’t exhaust yourself on a day that has already ended. Use that energy to move on and into the next day, full of hope and opportunity.

With the past, I have nothing to do; nor with the future. I live now.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Be here. Be present. The before or soon-to-be is nowhere near as important as the here and now.

So… be here!

“Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.”

“If I have lost confidence in myself, I have the universe against me.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I need this week to be a good one.  And when you need a week to be a good one, you use Emerson for a monday morning message.  There is too much to get done this week, and too much of my future depending on my ability to get those things done well for me to have any mishaps.  I’ll need to rely on help from others, and I must be rested, focused, driven. But most importantly, I need to be confident in myself.  Before I graduated from IUP, I was never anything but confident in myself.  Not that I was necessarily boastful, I just knew that I could accomplish anything I set my mind too.  I’m not sure why, but sometimes I lose sight of that confidence now.  I worry too much about other factors and not enough about how hard I can work to make sure things fall into place.  So this week, I’m going to work on getting my swagger back.  I’m going to be a little cocky.  You should join me, because we can’t get done what we need to if we’re not sure of myself.

Have a wonderful and productive week, everybody!

“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life is short enough. Don’t spend yours being angry. I can hear the second ticking away, but the sound fades when I enjoy my life. Live and let live. Let someone else be angry all the time. You’ve got a  life to live.

So what’s it going to be? Happiness or anger? Tick… tick… tick…

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.”

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Fill your heart with the idea that each day is the best day. Believe it with such conviction that it would be a crime to question it.

Because we all know that this used to be considered the best day of our lives.
